All of these things, the audience can relate to and it is important for the fans. I realized how important it was to them being true to themselves, being true to their roots, and being home grown. The more studying that I was doing of country artists, listening to country music, watching interviews, and trying to understand this guy and develop the accent and the sound, the more I realized how much I respected the country music scene and how important the country musicians are to their fans and vice versa. I listened to country all day every day for about three months. Then to be able to have the feeling of being up on stage, performing these songs to an audience and seeing them learn the words to the songs and seem to enjoy my performance was probably the closest I’ll ever get to being a rock star, so that was really cool.ĭid you get into country music at all while you were doing this?

So putting the work into that - how to develop the sound, how to play the guitar, and doing the best I could - was an amazing journey. I think within every kid there’s a desire to be a rock star of some sort, so, obviously, when this part came up, the opportunity to have a go at that was really quite a draw. My mom bought me a guitar when I was 12 and I used to pretend that I was a rock star in my own room. I’d never sung before and I’d never played the guitar properly. With that in mind, what was it like filming the concert scenes, because that has to be the best of both worlds?

So you know actors want to be rock stars, and rock stars want to be movie stars. I don’t think that where we find Liam is as a very happy character. I think that his disassociation with his home town, his loss of his hometown values and his disconnection with his family and people that really love him causes him to lose himself in some way. It’s this thing that a lot of people now are really valuing quite highly, but you quickly see that he’s quite a lost soul. He’s got fame, he’s got fortune, and he’s got success.

I think that he has everything that you’d assume a character would want. I think when we find Liam at the beginning of the movie, he is really lost. But why do you think he came back? Obviously, his friend dying was the trigger, but there had to be more to it than that.

Towards the end of the movie, Liam explains why he left. Liam’s just like some icing on the cake in some way.
TRAILER DE FOR EVER MY GIRL FULL
When Liam comes back into their lives, you see through some of the montage moments and through the chemistry that exists between the three of them, you start to see them as a family unit and as a full puzzle, even though the piece wasn’t really missing. She’s got an amazing community around her. When you watch the movie, I think you see that Josie was okay without him. I think that it’s quite a powerful and strong thing for a female character to have a battle of actually making a really tough decision like that. Liam’s a way worse person, if that’s possible, but in coming back home and in finding out that he’s got an 8-year-old daughter and the growth that has to happen as he learns to be a father, Josie sees him growing and sees him showing signs of the man that she hoped that he would be when they got engaged at 18. I think that they were 18 when Liam left town and that they’re new people now. In my experience, it’s quite an empowering thing to forgive someone because you take control and take ownership of that feeling, of that resentment, and that power that they have taken from you, and in some way, you end up being able to turn it around. I think that Josie’s ability to forgive Liam is really a quite powerful and strong ability. I think it’s a tale of redemption and a tale of forgiveness. Liam did something which is almost unforgiveable in my book, so is this story a tale of redemption or is it one of forgiveness? spoke to Roe about this story of redemption and forgiveness, what it was like to learn guitar and film the concert scenes, work for the first time with a child actor, and more. Then one day, Liam hears that his best friend from high school was killed in a car crash, and he is magnetically pulled back to his hometown for the funeral, where he is forced to face the consequences of everything that he left behind.
